Welcome my 1931 FORD Model A restoration page

You are visitor Hit Counter since February 27th, 2000

I will be updating this page as I get work done on the truck. I started work on the truck on May 15th, 1997 after bringing the hood home.
The history of this truck is that it is the only truck my grandfather ever owned. He and grandma bought the truck in 1928, and it was ran until the late 40's. At that point it was pushed off into the swamp at the edge of the farm and forgotten about. In the mid '70's my cousin and I pulled the truck out of the edge of the swamp and left it where the first photos of this WRECK show it. Please check back often as I will continue to update this section on a regular basis
This is to show about how the cab looked when I started to load it. I have made this photo show the truck in it's worst possible light. Most of the pile of junk behind the cab are 68 nova or 49 merc parts which happen to be in the same storage(?) location. This photo was taken May 25th, 1997. In loading the cab, I learned why cabs are almost always loaded sideways--- 2 men can load that way without mechanical assistance!

Truck cab in fixer solutionIn this shot, I have the cab starting an electrolytic replacement and stabilization. Advantages are, no chemicals to mess up the paint latter, and cheap. Email me if you want the details on how or just follow this LINK. The cab spent several days undergoing this preliminary process. At this point I was still working rotating shifts so there are some gaps when I was unable to get much done.
In mid July, My girlfriends brother gave me this car which I pulled the engine and trans out of. Cut the cost of the project some what, although the motor needs a major. After about a month in the shop I had the motor and car out and the frame back in the build bay.
first engine set This is a photo of the power train being test fitted to the frame for the first time. Much work and many mods to go but I will get it right yet.
The next thing I knew, I had to empty the bay yet once again to perform a minor repair on my tractor, which was last years project. Needless to say, this put something of a crimp in my plans for how much I could get done on a given project. Like many of us, I have way to many irons in the fire at some times, although it does make life interesting. I had hoped to get the next segment of cab work done in December of 1997, since the next couple of weeks are hunting season and my daughter made me promise that *THIS* year I would take her.  But as things go, we got nothing during hunting season, and it got to cold to work on the truck.  The following spring I brought my 1949 Ford Custom home which has taken priority over the truck

Please forgive the shameless plug but, check out some of my commercial pages from the links below. If you see anything you want just drop me a line and we will get together on it. As I am sure you are well aware, restorations are not cheap :-), and these are one of the ways I try to pay for them.  You can find the full list from my home page, http://www.intricatearticles.com/default.htm
